Prepares
Campuses
For Disaster
Carl Albert State College
(CASC) and Kiamichi
Technology Centers (KTC)
held an Emergency Crisis
Mass Casualty Drill on
Wednesday, April 18, 2012.
Mark Morris, District
Emergency Management
Manager for KTC, helped
lead the overall project and
stated, "This was a valu-
able learning tool for all of
us. We were very pleased
to see the effort from both
campuses and across the
community. Even though
each campus would have
unique issues to deal with
should a disaster hit, be-
cause of this drill I am con-
fident both campuses are
more prepared than ever
should an em.,ergency oc-
cur. Both groups are ready
to work individually if nec-
essary, or together if pos-
sible, to put the safety of
those on the campuses as
top priority."
Dr. Brandon Webb,
CASC President stated,
"Many individuals at
CASC took part, and we
definitely feel we can use
what we learned f}om this
should weever lace a true
disaster. We appreciate
the opportunity this pre-
sented for us to collaborate
with KTC and other orga-
nizations in the region."
Doug Hall, KTC Poteau
Campus Director said,
"This was an outstanding
opportunity to work with
CASC and other commu-
nity partners to implement
our response system for
emergency procedures.
Over the past three years,
KTC has developed a dis-
trict wide Emergency Op-
erations Management Plan
and this event provided use-
ful feedback in case of an
actual disaster."
According to Morris,
there were many individu-
als and organizations in-
volved in the drill. "I want
to give special thanks to
both campuses for putting
their emergency action
plans to the test and for
their participation in this
drill. We even had students
and some faculty/staff
members who played the
part of victims, and we
thank them for helping
make this feel real."
Those from the commu-
nity involved were John
Curtis, Region 5 EPRS
Planner; David Grovdahl,
LeFlore County EMS Di-
rector; Jon Pickle, Poteau
Fire Department Chief;
Ronnie Branscum, Poteau
Police Department; and
Rick Couri, Retired Poteau
Fire Chief. Also assisting
were employees and mem-
bers of Eastern Oklahoma
Medical Center, Oklahoma
State Department of
Health, LeFlore County
Emergency Management,
and Region 5 - Emergency
Medical Services
